BOLL WEEVILS AND JOHNSONGRASS

A History of Cotton in the Southern Rolling Plains of Texas

By Randall Conner

Randall has recently released a book that has been in the making for several months.  The paperback book tells the unique story of cotton in this part of Texas.  While the history is focused on the Southern Rolling Plains, it really covers much of the history of cotton across Texas.

The 182 page book contains over 160 pictures, many of which date back to the early 1900s.  Included are a number of pictures in color.  The book is printed on 25% cotton paper with the cover being 100% cotton.

Randall has identified about 275 cotton gins that have operated in the Southern Rolling Plains.  These are listed in the back of the book.

“Boll Weevils and Johnsongrass” can be purchased at several locations around the SRP or by sending orders to Windmill Enterprises, PO Box 211, Winters, Texas  79567. srpcga@wtxs.net.  The cost is $20 including sales tax or $25 including shipping and sales tax.

The book is available at Bluebonnet Mercantile in Winters, Ballinger Printing, Western Chemical and The Hair Stop in Rowena, Miles Co-op, Mereta Co-op, and Wall Co-op.
