The Southern Rolling Plains Cotton Growers Association represents producers and gins in the Concho Valley Region of Texas near San Angelo. The area consists of 12 counties and has about 280,000 acres in cotton production. The Southern Rolling Plains was the first zone in Texas to initiate Boll Weevil Eradication in 1993 and was declared functionally eradicated in 2000. The cotton farmers in this area are some of the most progressive and technically advanced producers in the entire cotton producing regions of the United States.
Our MissionThe Mission of the Southern Rolling Plains Cotton Growers Association is to develop, carry out, and participate in programs of research, disease and insect control, education, and promotion designed to encourage the production, marketing, and use of cotton.
Guess How Many Bales Contest?The winner of the contest is Milton Plagens, Jr. of San Angelo. His guess was 302,649 bales. The Southern Rolling Plains cotton production for 2007 was 301,834 bales, with possibly a few more bales still coming in. That was on 203,000 harvested acres, making a yield of 743 pound per acre.
