The Southern Rolling Plains Cotton Growers Association represents producers and gins in the Concho Valley Region of Texas near San Angelo.  The area consists of 12 counties and has about 240,000 acres in cotton production.  The Southern Rolling Plains was the first zone in Texas to initiate Boll Weevil Eradication in 1993 and was declared functionally eradicated in 2000.  The cotton farmers in this area are some of the most progressive and technically advanced producers in the entire cotton producing regions of the United States. 


Our Mission

The Mission of the Southern Rolling Plains Cotton Growers Association is to develop, carry out, and participate in programs of research, disease and insect control, education, and promotion designed to encourage the production, marketing, and use of cotton.

CHARLIE STENHOLM TO KEYNOTE AGRIPLEX AG DAY

Former Congressman Stenholm is a Senior Policy Advisor at OFW Law. Born in Stamford, Texas, Mr. Stenholm went on to serve the 32-county, 17th District of Texas in the U.S. House of Representatives. Mr. Stenholm was a member of the House Committee on Agriculture throughout his 26-year House career, serving as the Committee's ranking Democrat for his last eight years until 2004. He earned a reputation for building bipartisan alliances in areas as diverse as agriculture, resource conservation, food safety, Social Security, energy, health care, and the budget.

Mr. Stenholm currently serves as Co-Chair of the Committee for a Responsible Federal Budget and sits on the Board of Directors for the Concord Coalition, the Business and Industry Political Action Committee, and the Coalition for a Fiscally Sound America.  He is also a member of the Farm Foundation Round Table and the 25 x 25 Steering Committee.  Mr. Stenholm graduated from Tarleton State Junior College and Texas Tech University with a BS and MS in agriculture education. He has also received honorary Doctor of Law degrees from Abilene Christian, Hardin-Simmons, and McMurry Universities.

Guess how many bales of cotton will be produced in the Southern Rolling Plains this season.  The entry with the closest number will receive a steak dinner for two.

Entries will be posted on the website www.srpcotton.org and the winner will be notified when all gins have finished for the season.

The winner was Dean McIntyre with a guess of 26, 550 bales.  The 2011 production of cotton in the Southern Rolling Plains was 26,226.
